Not so long ago I wrote a post about Gestational Diabetes. I wrote this post because at 28 weeks into my second pregnancy I had my Gestational Diabetes diagnosis. I was probably the healthiest I had been in a long time apart from some stress, I had a healthy BMI, my diet was good, I took regular light exercise. A Gestational Diabetes diagnosis was the last thing I was expecting.
I was registered for the GTT at my booking in appointment. Only because there was Type 2 diabetes on my mothers side. Although my mother doesn’t actually have diabetes, she is borderline Pre-diabetic. My midwife was originally reluctant to book it in. Usually you are only referred if you have a direct relative with diabetes or other risk factors. This was my only risk factor. In the end, she decided it was safer to do so and booked me in for 28 weeks.… Read More

2019 update regarding my ALDI baby product swaps post: I have had to revise this post to no longer include Aldi’s Mamia First Milk, as it could be seen as a breach of the WHO code. There are a lot of questions arising over the cheaper Milk brands but First step Nutrition state in their Cost of Infant Formulas Marketed in the UK, that ‘As all first infant milks must meet current EU regulations for infant formula composition, there is no need for families to buy more expensive formula’. The reason some brands are priced lower is due to the brands not making claims through marketing and advertising and this saving is passed onto the consumer. While I am not promoting the use of formula over breastmilk, I understand the right that every parent has the right to choose how to feed their baby and some parents can not breastfeed.… Read More
Yay, I am only a few days late with Emmie’s 5 month update! Turn on that broken record, but man, these past 4 weeks have literally disappeared before my eyes! Maybe it’s because my last update was two weeks late, I don’t know. It just seems time is going a lot faster this time round. I swear she will be toddling in a few months. I can’t believe I am writing this, here is Emmie’s 5 Month update:
Weight: 13lbs 4oz
I have literally just come back from the clinic after getting Emmie weighed. I was so surprised to find out she had dropped a number of percentiles. She has started looking so porky?!? Ordinarily, I don’t think I would worry too much. Emmie was always on the wee side but happily followed her 25 centile line. Now though she has dropped to maybe the 13th centile or there about’s.… Read More
Baltic Amber strung into jewellery has been long been hailed by many mums as a way to soothe babies through teething. Those who use Amber beads, swear by them, but there are also many that are sceptical of the healing properties they are supposed to possess. Then, there are also the safety concerns of babies wearing jewellery.
As Emmie is showing more and more signs of teething, I have begun once again to think how I can help soothe her sore gums. Teething gels are having little effect and although she doesn’t seem too bad with her symptoms, her drooling and mouth full of fist tell me she is feeling it! Finlay was never too bad with his teething and we sporadically used Amber beads, but I wanted to dig deeper to see if it could be the answer for Emmie.
So what’s the story behind Baltic Amber?
Amber has been used for centuries and was once thought to hold magical powers protecting the wearer from evil spirits and diseases.… Read More
