Today is Blogtober day 8 and we have a topic of holidays. I would say this post can loosely be classed as a holiday, technically I was working and studying. In fact perhaps I am even clutching at straws because I was in St. Lucia for so long that I often class myself as having lived there!
However, this was a great time in my life and rarely get the chance to talk about it on my blog. So today I am going to be taking you back to 2008 when I was studying for my MSc in Conservation Science at Imperial College London. I was given the fantastic opportunity to join Durrell and do my research thesis on an endangered population of whiptail Lizards from St. Lucia, which meant spending almost 5 months in the Caribbean! Lucky for me it wasn’t all work and no play and I got to spend many a day exploring this amazing part of the world.… Read More
It’s Blogtober day 7 and todays topic is goals! There is one goal in my life that I have set and class as one of the best decisions I have ever made. I would do it all again in heartbeat if I had to. It may seem small and insignificant to some, but for me it was everything. I basically set out to raise £2500 in 90 days. Why? To pay for Private Medical treatment for my Son, Finlay.
Finlay was born with severe Plagiocephaly and form of flat head syndrome. His head was a rhombus shape, his skull plates were all crossed which resulted in his facial features being pushed out of alignment. This is a brief overview, but you can read in more depth here and here.
For many months we were advised it would self correct with positioning techniques. We even paid £100’s of pounds for a cranial oesteopath.… Read More

It’s day 5 of Blogtober and today’s topic is Education. A perfect topic as Finlay has just started school. He is now into his 4th week and has settled in amazingly well. I feel so guilty that I totally underestimated him. He has surpassed all my expectations and is really enjoying what school has to offer.
I remember a year ago facing the daunting process of the Primary School admission application. I knew nothing, absolutely nothing about the admissions procedure. It was confusing and scary. I battled through determined to know how it worked. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to share my experiences and offer some tips!
The Equal Preference Admissions System
In previous years schools were able to favour applicants who had put the school as a first choice under the old ‘preferencence first system’. This meant someone who lived quite a distance from the school but had it as a first choice could be offered a place over someone who lived closer but had it as a second choice preference Admission authorities are now legally required to operate an ‘equal preference’ system.… Read More
I didn’t did I? I didn’t just mention the ‘C’ word? Blame writer’s block. Today is day 4 of Blogtober and today’s theme is Date. I couldn’t really think of a significant date that I haven’t already talked about in one respect or another. I haven’t got many date stories that spring to mind. Mine and Chris’s first date went pretty well, lol, we’re still together. However we just talked and got along, he was handsome, I was pretty (er) and the rest is pretty much history!
So I was racking my brain and I thought ‘How many days until Xmas?’. Bam! So I thought I would update you all with how many days we have left until the big day. 82! That really isn’t that many, chop chop! And what we have to worry about before them, so here are some all important dates for your Diary!
04th October: 82 Days left until Xmas Day
29th October: British Summer Time end.… Read More
This has been one of my most anticipated posts. Not just because it’s part of Blogoween, but I have had my Halloween crafts sat in a box for weeks and I’ve been dying to sit down with Finlay to have some fun!
Today after school we decided to go for the Toilet Tube Halloween Crafts, they looked nice and simple which is quite important at the moment. Finlay has just started school so he gets quite tired and man when he is tired, we don’t have to make cardboard monsters!
So for this, you will need:
- Toilet tubes
- Green, purple, orange, black paint
- White toilet tisue
- Blak and white craft foam
- Paint bruses
- Green Card
- Boggly Eyes
- Black pen/sharpie
Black Bats: Fold down and pinch together the top of your toilet tube to form the bat ears. Paint the whole thing, Black. Using the black foam, cut out some Bat wings.… Read More
I’m taking part in Blogtober17 and today’s topic is Cars. I could tell you I have a Vauxhall Corsa but that’s pretty dull, so I thought a little bit out of the box! I was once told that a toddler owning the Little Tikes cosy coupe was a right of passage. This was immediately followed with ‘but it will end up faded and unused at the end of the garden’.
We, of course, bought one for Finlay. It has been well loved. He has had so much fun playing with it. Sometimes not what it was designed for. Like the time I caught him using it as a ladder and standing on its roof to peer over our 6ft fence into the neighbours garden! Other times it has sat in one place for days at a time. Overall though, it has been a great purchase. However, of late, it has been played with less and less.… Read More
I realised Emmeline is now 6 months old and I haven’t yet got round to posting about her birth. So as I am taking part in #Blogtober17 and today’s topic is babies. So the perfect opportunity to do so!
I had an Emergency Cesarean with my first baby due to him being an undiagnosed breech. I also had post birth complications and I had a lot of anxiety around having to have another cesarean. From the start, I knew that if I was able to I wanted this birth to be a natural delivery or VBAC as they call it. My consultant fully supported my choice as long as A) baby was head down and B) arrived before induction. The baby could not be turned or be induced due to my previous section.
Emmeline certainly like to keep me on my toes. At her 20 week scan, she was breech, typically.… Read More
Today is the 01st October and that means it is officially Halloween season! It was only a few weeks ago that we were threatened with an Indian summer and all of a sudden there’s a certain crispness to the air. The seasons have changed and a cosy autumnal feeling is now all around. It won’t be long until that long awaited ‘All Hallows Eve‘ on the 31st October!
Halloween has to be one of my favourite holidays – It’s just so much fun and there is so much to see and do on the lead up to the actual day. I can’t wait to visit some local Halloween attractions and hopefully this year get some great pumpkin patch photos. I have completely stocked up on Halloween themed goodies which is something I have always been rubbish at doing. So this year, we are well and truly ready to go!… Read More
