Today we are celebrating baby development milestones 3 months! I can’t believe Emmie is 3 Months old already! My newborn has gone and I have gained a chubby cheeked real little human. She has changed so much since her 2 month update. I really did forget how quickly this stage goes by. It makes me sad they don’t stay little for long, but also incredibly excited to see the little girl she is going to grow into. So without further ado, l give you Emmie’s baby development milestones 3 months!
Baby Development Milestones 3 Months | 12 weeks
Weight: 11lb 3oz
Over the past 4 weeks Emmie has continued to show more and more interest in what’s going on around her. She is extremely nosey. When being held loves nothing more than to sit up and make sure she has had a good look at everything that’s on offer. If you put her down and she isn’t done, she lets loose her wrath, screaming in protest. Sit her back up and she instantly stops!
Her head and neck control have continued to develop, when sitting up on our lap she now happily holds her head nice and steady for significant amounts of time. To help her I have encouraged tummy time. We also play a little game which she loves, when lying on her back, I slowly pull her up by her hands into a sitting position. This is a really good exercise to help develop those muscles, just be sure your baby has enough control if your going attempt it.
I couldn’t believe it when at 10 weeks, Emmie gave us her first giggle!! I was changing her and tickling under her chin and she just let it out. We were all round Aunty’s house, so it was great that everyone got to hear it. She was a bit reluctant to laugh again, as hard as I tried. I got lots of smiles, but no laughs until this week, she has now really been going for it. ‘nothing sweeter than the sound of a babies giggle, much love!
At 9 weeks Emmie had her first set of immunisations: (DTaP/IPV/Hib), (PCV), (MenB) and (Rotarix vaccine). She wasn’t pleased about it. I remember Finlay crying, but not too badly and he got over it very quickly. Emmie on the other hand, did one of those very long, I am not going to breath, red faced cries. She continued to cry for ages after as well, I tried not to show it, but my heart broke. We were advised to medicate with Calpol straight after and again 4 – 6 hours later. Unfortunatley, Emmie retained a fever well into the second day, so she had to have an extra dose of calpol on top, but she seemed fine otherwise and got over her ordeal.
Four days after the immunisations, Emmie came down with Chicken Pox. Finlay had it a few weeks before so it was inevitable really. I don’t really know if the fever was down to the immunisations or the developing Chicken Pox. I guess we will see how she fairs at the 16 week jabs. She was lucky that she only got about 8 spots in total. I , on the other hand, know if it helped breastfeeding and getting some extra omph from my milk? Or if it also means a mild case before a year old, might mean she will catch it again. I hope not, she scratched a spot on her cheek and it healed deep leaving her with her first little scar.
I have continued to breastfeed exclusively, it definitely feels like I have crossed a bridge and it seems to be getting easier, although I am still worrying about how much milk I am producing. This is probably silly though, at her weigh in last week, she was still following the 25th centile which she has been on all along.
I still worry about her deveolping Flat Head Syndrome, I think when you go through something with one child, the fear is there it will happen again. Emmie had quite a pronounced cone head at birth due to the suction to get her out. It is rounder but her head is still a little coned. I think this is why I worry. As the head becomes flat with Flat Head Syndrome, it pushes the skullbones up and wide (Brachycephaly). While It does look like there is a small degree of flatness with Emmie, a small amount can be normal and nothing to worry about. Lets just hope it doesn’t get worse!
Emmie is such a happy, chilled out baby. She does cry, but not for very long. Most of the time she will sit cooing and giggling and gives everyone smiles all the time. I’m sorry Fin but you were a bit of a grump! She consistently sleeps through the night. She will have a sleepy feed about 11pm, which I express. This ensure she gets a nice full feed for the night. Then she will go through to anywhere between 5.30 – 7am. It would be nice for 7am everytime, but at 12 weeks I’m not complaining!
I think she is on track with her baby development milestones 3 months. Remember though, all babies are different and develop at different rates! I hope you enjoyed Emmie’s baby development milestones 3 Months. Why not read how she’s been getting on at 4 months old?
