Looking back: One year after starting school!

Almost one year ago today, Finlay started school. As he entered Foundation Stage, I remembered back over the last 4.5 years. Without meaning to sound cliche, it had gone in a blink of an eye. That tiny newborn was standing before me, a child. In crisp, slightly too big school uniform, looking so so grown up. A lump was in my throat, but I remember feeling immense pride. We all stood in our kitchen that first morning filled with such a strange excitement. None of us quite knowing what this next chapter in life would hold, but knowing somehow, it was going to be good.

First day starting school

I learnt many things that the first term, like how amazing my darling little boy could be. That he took it all in his stride and got stuck in 100%, never complaining and wanting so hard to please. I learnt that clothes just disappear and then thankfully reappear.… Read More

Hardwearing Back to School Shoes with Jake Shoes

This time last year, Finlay was about to embark on his journey through school. I had heard, I had researched and I had conflicting opinions as to what the best pair of school shoes would be for him. Obviously, I wanted something comfy, something hardwearing, but that wasn’t going to set me back a fortune. I thought I had picked the right pair, what a rookie I was! The first pair hardly lasted the first week. The next pair didn’t last much longer. The third did a good stint, but they defiantly needed replacing come the end of term. I was incredibly excited when I was asked to review a pair of back to school shoes from the wonderful guys over at Jake Shoes!

Primary School Application Process | 13 Tops Tips to ease your Application

I remember facing the daunting obligation of the Primary School application process. I knew absolutely nothing about it as a first timer. It was confusing and scary. Information was conflicting and inaccurate. Although we lived near a school, it was a church school. It had its own catchment and was hugely popular and hard to get into if you didn’t apply for a ‘religious’ space. We also lived on the edge of this catchment. While we lived relatively near to a few other schools, the distance was quite far. I wondered how I go about selecting a place with this in mind. I was convinced we would end up placed anywhere due to our location and from word of mouth. I was determined to find out how the primary school application process worked if anything to just ease my stress over it all. I couldn’t believe how difficult it was, and year after year I hear the same questions from parents.… Read More

Education - Primary School Application ProcessThe Utter Confusion of the School applicant Process!

Seeing all the back to school photos on my news feed has sent my tummy to a bag of nerves. This year we will be starting the School Application Process! To be honest It has come round so quickly (I guess it does for everyone). I feel I know very little about the process, but I know from word of mouth and news feeds, its a scramble for any place. I know also, all the local schools to us have been oversubscribed for the past few years. I’m guessing that’s a bad thing!

The Schools…

We live in an area that has one definite school in catchment. This school has a great reputation, but it’s a church school. They hold 30 places for worshippers and 30 places for everyone else (this may drop if they have over 30 church applications).  Then they follow the standard allocation procedure.… Read More
