If like me, living your best life includes having the option to earn money from the comfort of your own home then this is the post for you! Office of National Statistics (ONS) revealed that the number of UK workers who have moved into remote-working has increased by nearly a quarter of a million over a decade. And thanks to changing attitudes, easy-access cloud systems, and ever-improving network capabilities this number is expected to continue increasing.
I love working from home and I’ve managed to find lots of work from home jobs to make that dream a reality. I find that my work-life balance is better; I get to stay cosy in my dressing gown all day, I manage my own time, and my income has increased as a result of it too. In fact I managed to earn over £1000 from home (alongside working part-time) within a month last year. Here are some of my favourite ways to earn money from home:
1. FREELANCE YOUR SKILLS
The flexibility, independence, and opportunity to make more money are just a couple of the reason why more people are opting to become freelancers. The most in demand freelancers include:
- Social Media Marketer
- Web Designer
- Writing/Content Editing
- Graphic Designer
- Photographer
- Accountant/Bookkeeper
- Virtual Assistant
Fiverr is where I go to find freelance gigs. But other websites that are worth visiting to find freelance work are FlexJobs, PeoplePerHour, Toptal, and Freelancer.
2. BLOGGING
Blogging is by far my favourite way to earn money on the internet. Not only is it a great way to express yourself but it also offers countless income opportunities. Every week I come across more and more bloggers that are quitting their 9-5 jobs and are making a living from blogging. The most common ways bloggers make money are:• Sponsored posts (getting paid to publish an article for a brand)• Paid advertising• Affiliate marketing (commission based on sign ups)• Freelance writing• Product reviews.
I cannot recommend creating your own blog enough. I started beemoneysavvy.com in 2018 and yourbestlifeadvice.co.uk in 2020 and absolutely love writing for them, working with brands and the extra income is also appreciated. 3. BECOME A SEARCH ENGINE/SOCIAL MEDIAEVALUATOR
I started working as a social media evaluator last year and earned up to £900 a month! There are a whole range of social media and search engine evaluation jobs open to new recruits. The specifics of the projects vary but usually involve you (an independent contractor) rating the ads, search engine results or news articles that you see online.
Payment can also vary but the social media evaluation that I’ve done in the past earned me £10/$14+ an hour! The most common marketplace for evaluator roles are Appen and Lionbridge.
4. SELLING ONLINE
Selling your unwanted items online can be a great way to earn a little extra cash. But there are also tons of hustlers turning their decluttering hobby into a reselling business. Most resellers will make their money by buying cheap products (usually from a charity shop or car boot sale), cleaning them up, and selling them for profit online.
If this is a hustle that interests you here are some of my top tips for making the most profit:
- Take great photos – make sure that the item you’re selling takes centre stage – take a good quality, well-lit picture on a plain background.
- Be truthful – be clear about any faults, damage or wear and tear – it will likely cost you more to refund the buyer if the product isn’t as you described.
- Research delivery – if you’re offering delivery make sure that you don’t get caught out by expensive shipping costs.
- Think seasonal – coats and jumpers are far more likely to sell leading up to winter, and shorts and shirts are far more likely to sell in the summer.
5. MARKET RESEARCH PROJECTS
Over the past year I’ve earned £100’s from market research interviews. Often this will involve filling in your demographics to see if you qualify for the research, arranging a time (to suit you) for a researcher to call you, and them asking you a range of questions about your thoughts towards a product or service. These opportunities tend to be well paid often in the range of £75 for 1 hour video call.
Respondent offer a range of work from home research projects that you can complete using your webcam, telephone or laptop. The projects vary so you do need to check the website regularly to see if you qualify for new projects. I’ve earned £50 for a quick chat in a chatroom with a Respondentresearch project before, but some report earning £1000+.
6. EARN MONEY WITH SURVEYS
Completing surveys isn’t going to make you rich. But it is great if you’re just looking to earn a few extra ££’s in your spare time. I manage to earn on average an extra £15 a week by completing surveys and stash this money away to pay for birthday and Christmas gifts.
Here are my go to survey sites along my average earnings:
- Prolific (£5 a week)
- Swagbucks (700 points/£5 a week)
- Viewsbank (£1 a week)
- IntelliZoom Panel (1 study/$5 a week)
- YouGov (£50 every 6 months).
7. SMARTPHONE APPS
Another great way to add to your work from home income is by using smartphone apps. There are apps that pay you to complete surveys, mystery shopping apps, apps that pay you to upload your receipts, and more! Here are my favourite smartphone apps along with how much I earn from them on the average week:
- VoxPopMe – complete video surveys (£2 a week)
- BeMyEye – mystery shopping (£5 a week)
- Shoppix – upload your receipts (£5 a month)
- Job Spotter – take photos of job vacancy signs (£5 a month)
8. MATCHED BETTING
Matched Betting involves profiting from the free bets and incentives that bookmakers offer to entice you to use their gambling services. With a few hours of effort a week, I’ve earn £400 from matched betting (in the space of 3 months).
This is a perfectly legitimate way of earning some extra (tax-free) money. Tons of people report earning a full-time income from matched betting. But if you don’t have that much time to dedicate to finding the offers and placing your bets, you can still earn a substantial amount of money. Odds Maker report that with as little as 3 hours’ worth of work a week you can earn over £300!
9. PAID TASK WEBSITES
There are so many websites where you can get paid to do short tasks. Most of these websites offer different types of small and easy micro tasks for users to work and earn money.The tasks that can vary widely from taking surveys, watching a video, signing up to a free trial, opening an account with a specific provider and more.
OhMyDosh is an example of a paid task website. By signing up you will earn 50p straightaway, and another 50p for confirming your email. Once you’ve completed the sign up process you will be able to see all the offers available including surveys, free trials, competitions and more. Swagbucks and 20Cogs are also paid task websites.
10. REFER A FRIEND PROGRAMMES
Referral programmes can be a great way to generate income from your blog, social media following or friends. Tons of businesses offer refer a friend programmes where you can recommend their service to a friend and gain a reward when they sign up. Some of the referral programmes that I regularly promote include:
- Bulb – £50 credit for both you and your friend
- TopCashback – up to £25 per referral
- Booking.com – £15 credit for you and your friend
- Curve – £5 for both you and your friend
- Shopmium – £3 worth of free food or drink
