Office life isn’t for everyone, and for some, the idea of a desk job makes them shiver. If that’s the case for you, there is good news, despite it seeming like the usual 9-5 is the norm. Here are a few careers that you might want to consider if the world of unconventional work is for you…
Photographer
If you’re a dab hand with a camera and fancy marketing yourself to your target clients with a solid portfolio, becoming a photographer may just be for you. There are plenty of avenues you can go down with this too, from luxury hotel photography to weddings, family portraits, and even pets!
Outdoor activity instructor
With many of us craving the outdoors as our daily lives become more tech based, the activity industry is growing, which means outdoor activity jobs are out there to grab. This is a great way to fuse fun with a rewarding career, often working with children to ensure they can enjoy outdoor pursuits safely.
Dog walker
Walking cute furry friends for money every day? Sign us up! Starting a dog walking business can be fun and lucrative, though it’s worth bearing in mind that you’ll have to be able to battle with whatever the British weather throws at you, capably handle all the dogs in your care (even the big ones), and be able to market yourself well. All this is in no way insurmountable though, and the day-to-day reality of exercising the pooches of others is the dream job of animal lovers everywhere.

The wine making boom is well and truly underway in the UK, with warmer summers and chalky soil making the south of England in particular a hotspot for wine production. With vineyards cropping up and successfully creating delicious bottles of wine, there is an increase in call for wine professionals. There are even university courses dedicated to it!

If you’re green fingered with an eye for design, you may well be wasted in an office – a career in garden landscaping could be right up your street. Day to day, you could be laying lawns, building water features, coordinating planting and more. Becoming a landscape gardener could see you joining an existing landscaping business, or starting your own.

Looking after the children of others is a natural career path for those that love working with kids, and are willing to gain the skills and qualifications that parents will be looking for. Nannying could involve anything from the school run and taking kids to clubs, to cooking and supervising homework; it’s definitely not your typical 9-5, and can be hugely rewarding.

If lists, liaising and love are all passions of yours, fuse them all into a career as a wedding planner. If breathwork, gentle movement and helping others find calm and peace sounds appealing, you may want to consider becoming a yoga teacher. Accessible to all abilities, yoga takes you through a series of poses designed to relax you as well as stretching and strengthening your muscles; classes can be held any time of the morning, afternoon or evening, making it a very flexible career to pursue.
